OVERVIEW

The TVA celebrates its fifteenth year in the summer of 2008. We have provided skill training for Junior and Senior High athletes as well as assisted in preparation for some college athletes for their preseason. We offer 3 different sessions which appeal to all ages and level of players. The Texas Volleyball Academy has built its’ reputation by focusing on fundamental teaching and holding each player accountable for her development. The TVA staff is very interactive with the athletes and will push them to excel with each touch of the ball.


STAFF
As is our tradition, Vanessa Seghers, will lead the staff. She is a twenty-two year veteran of the volleyball circuit. She is currently celebrating the Houston Junior 15 National‘s Gold medal victory at the 2007 Junior Olympic National Championships. Vanessa has served under some of the country’s most decorated volleyball icons. This includes stops at the University of Texas, where she served under Mick Haley, former USA head coach and current Head Coach at USC. She then spent time as an Assistant at the University of Florida with Olympians and Hall of Famers Marilyn McReavy Nolen and Mary Jo Peppler. Vanessa also served as Head Coach at Marshall University in Huntington, WV. Vanessa has been with Houston Juniors since it's inception in 1986 with the exception of her college coaching hiatus.
Mitchell Casteel, who has returned to his role as Houston Juniors Director, is the co-owner of the Texas Volleyball Academy. He also serves as a lead instructor at the TVA. Mitch has stops that include the University of Texas, coaching along side Mick Haley. Mitch also served as the Head Coach at Baylor and assisted at California State University at Bakersfield. Mitch is a diligent student of the game and brings a wealth of knowledge to the Texas Volleyball Academy. Our support staff consists of collegiate coaches, high school coaches, club coaches, and college players that all bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm.

REGISTRATION

Registration Forms are linked to each camp. Please fill out the form completely and return it to the Sagewillow address included. Please be prompt with your payment as the TVA fills quickly and always has a waiting list of eager athletes. We will close registration upon reaching capacity. This may occur prior to the deadline. Your current physical needs to be included with your deposit. We will not provide a form for this. You can obtain a copy of your current physical from your school or physician. Registration will take place during the first few minutes of your first day. It is required to have current insurance information and a current physical.

LOCATION

All sessions will be held at the Houston Junior Training Center located at 1310 W. Sam Houston Pkwy N. There is a map link on the www.houstonjuniors.com web page. The general location is the intersection of I10W and B8 West. We are on the northbound feeder of B8 about ˝ mile north of I10W between Westview and Hammerly.


JUMP START (June 17 - 19)

The Texas Volleyball Academy will host a beginner camp June 17-19, 9AM-11AM. The JSP will introduce volleyball skills to young players fourth through sixth grade. In alignment with the Mini Elite and 5 Day Academy, the Jump Start Program will focus on skill development, competition and movement skills. The emphasis will be on fun, effort and change in an age appropriate environment. With assistance from Houston Juniors athletes, the Jump Start program will provide excellent role models for volleyball and sportsmanship.


TVA MINI ELITE SESSION (June 17 - 19)

Registration Form

Three days (June 17-19, noon - 4 PM) of accelerated training for athletes of all levels. Coach-to-athlete ratios range from 1 to 6 and have been as low as 1 to 1. Each court or station will have a minimum of a master coach and an assistant. All athletes will receive technical training on all skills and will be provided position specific training each day. The Mini Elite is meant for players with prior experience. The TVA Mini Elite is fast paced and demanding both mentally and physically.


TVA 5 DAY SESSION (July 21 - 25)
Registration Form

Five days (July 21 -25, 8AM – 1PM) of serious training for athletes of all levels. Coach-to-athlete ratios range from 1 to 6 and have been as low as 1 to 1. Each court or station will have a minimum of a master coach and an assistant. All athletes will receive technical training on all skills and will be provided position specific training each day. The last hour will consist of physical training, core conditioning, and plyometric training. The TVA 5 Day is scheduled to coincide with the beginning of the school season to better prepare players for their school tryouts. Prior experience is not required.
